Divorce Process in Singapore

The divorce process in Singapore is broken down into two stages.
In stage 1 of the divorce process in Singapore, the family court will decide if the marriage should be terminated because the marriage has broken down irretrievably based on one of the following grounds:[1]
Adultery
Unreasonable behaviour of the other party
Desertion for a continuous period of 2 years
Separation for 3 years if both parties agree to the divorce
Separation for 4 years if only 1 party agrees to the divorce
Should the court be satisfied that the marriage has indeed broken down irretrievably; it will grant an interim judgment to the parties and deal with the ancillary matters in stage 2 of the Divorce Process in Singapore. These include division of matrimonial assets, custody, care and control of the children of the marriage and maintenance for the wife and children.
Parties will receive a final judgment at the conclusion of stage 2.
